Hi Jenny, welcome to the Lepelclub journal! We're so happy you're here. Let's jump right in— who is Jenny?
Hi there! I’m Jenny, founder of Freja New York. I’m 28 and currently live in New York City.
Where did you grow up and where are you now? How does your location inspire you?
I was born in China and moved around quite a bit growing up. After attending college at Cornell I just landed in NYC and have stayed ever since, it’s the first place that’s starting to feel like home.
I travel a lot for work and play but NYC is the one city that I always come back to. It’s a place that I feel really grows with you — whatever you’re looking for whether it's internal or extrinsic.
We love Freja here at the club! What was the inspiration behind the brand name?
I needed a website so I needed a domain name…I googled “Scandinavian baby names” and picked Freja because I thought it sounded nice and meant love in Norse, which felt fitting given our brand mission.
Do you have a favorite piece?
Ooooh my go-to is our Hudson bag, which we’re launching next week! It’s the only style I’ve worn since I got the first samples back in November, and I can’t wait to finally share. Of our existing styles, my favorite small bag is the Mini Chrystie, and favorite tote is the Bleecker!
What do you love most about having a small (but mighty!) team of three? (We have 5 now!)
I love how close knit we are and how everyone has such unique strengths and truly loves what they do. Business really blends into life and I can’t believe we get to call this work everyday.
What does an average morning look like for you?
I wake up naturally, no alarm. I just got back from a Japan trip where I discovered the most charming little storefronts filled with all kinds of incense…so now each morning I break off a little piece and light it. I find it really centers and calms me.
After that I call my parents and if I don’t have a workout scheduled with my trainer I’ll jump right into work! I plan my days the night before so I always wake up to a stacked to do list. I try to cross off anything urgent and important in the mornings, and I don’t take any meetings until later in the day.
And lastly, we have to ask: how do you take your coffee?
Oat milk cappuccino, decaf!
