A coffee with Mia Tucker

A coffee with Mia Tucker

Hi Mia, welcome to the Lepelclub journal! We’re happy to have you here! Could you begin with introducing yourself?
Thank you so much! My name is Mia Tucker and personally I'm an interior & homewares fanatic so I'm a huge fan of Lepelclub!

We’d love to get to know you better! Where did you grow up, and where do you live now?
I grew up beachside in Sydney, Australia, but have now traded that in for bigger city life with a move back to London (where I was born), a few years ago. My family is South African so I still visit Cape Town each year at Christmas - it's definitely my happy place. I live in North London surrounded by lots of close friends, cute coffee shops and wine bars!

How have you grown personally and professionally over the years? What is your favorite part of your current professional role?
I went to Sydney University to study Marketing & International Relations and have since embarked on an influencer-marketing driven career path. I'm currently PR & Partnerships Manager for jewellery brand Astrid & Miyu. My favourite part of my role is connecting and working with others to bring visions to life; you get to meet so many fantastic people across the industry and across different verticals.

It sounds cheesy, but growth for me really has come from being uncomfortable. I knew that when I decided to move to London on my own at 22, it wasn't going to be easy, but it was a challenge I was ready to take on. I couldn't even have anticipated how competitive the UK job market was going to be from a professional perspective, or how difficult it is to find yourself a whole new circle of friends as an adult in a new city! But by taking things day by day, I was able to put myself out there by taking on opportunities I usually wouldn't make the time for, which led me to where I am now a few years later.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to your younger self? What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Stick with your hobbies! Life gets busy and it's easy to let things slide, but making time to develop your personal skills (whatever it may be) or allocating time to focus on things that truly bring you joy, will support your mental health and re-energise you so that you can carry your best self into other parts of your life.

As mentioned, I love homewares and I really love florals - so I spend a lot of time scrolling Pinterest and making Scrapbooks at home! But I love to host my friends any opportunity I get, so that I can design my own floral arrangements, create some cute menus and print pieces and tablescape my dining table, it's like a creative outlet for me. I also really love to travel, so I plan my annual leave very carefully to ensure I get out of London and explore all of the beautiful countries on our doorstep, as much as I can.

One of our favorite questions to ask here at Lepelclub is... How do you take your coffee?
I really miss Australian coffee! But I keep it simple and have a regular flat white, or an iced latté in Summer.

And finally, how do you hope to stir things up in the future?
I know it's only September but in the marketing world Christmas is really upon us, and I can't wait! We have so many exciting PR & Partnership strategies planned for the festive season so you'll have to stay tuned to see how we continue disrupting socials with our creative campaigns over the next few months.
