A coffee with Abby Price
Hi Abby, we are so happy to have you here! Who is Abby Price?
I am 28 years old and own the custom embroidery business, Abbode. I have always been an entrepreneur at heart, and have been running my own business for about 3.5 years now. I live in Soho, NYC with my puppy and boyfriend, I have been in the city for about 5 years now and never plan on leaving.
Tell us more about Abbode-what is it, and how did it come to life?
Abode is a custom embroidery shop in NYC. It started with dry floral arrangements and vintage decor, but everything changed when I bought an embroidery machine on a whim. After trying it out during a slow period, embroidery took off, and a pop-up helped it gain traction. Now, it’s become incredibly popular and the heart of the business.
What inspired the name Abbode?
When naming the business, I wanted something short, unique, and tied to the idea of home without being too specific. I found the word “abode” and loved how it looked. Adding an extra “B” made it distinctive, and I liked the symmetry of the lowercase letters all aligning neatly.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to start their own design-focused business?
My advice for starting a design-focused business is to create something unique that fills a gap in the market. Don’t be just another brand—stand out with a strong, distinct point of view.
Could you share a favorite customer story or moment that stands out since starting Abbode?
One of my favorite moments with Abbode was our collaboration with LL..Bean. It was amazing to have such an iconic brand reach out to us, and the feedback and support were beyond what I could have imagined. Meeting everyone and creating a product people loved was such a fun and rewarding experience.
How does having such a beautiful location in New York contribute to your inspiration when it comes to work?
Being in New York is a dream come true and the foundation of our business. The city’s love for itself shines through in our products, helping us stand out. I can’t imagine starting this business in any other city. The cool, creative energy here is so inspiring—even just walking to work sparks new ideas.
What's your favorite way to unwind after a busy day?
My favorite way to unwind is by having dinner specifically on the couch while watching TV, with my puppy cuddling up next to me.
We can't let you go without asking our favorite question here at Lepelclub! How do you take your coffee?
I actually don't drink coffee which is crazy as an entrepreneur! I do love a matcha latte with almond milk though :)
