A coffee with Robyn Stevens

A coffee with Robyn Stevens

Hi Robyn! Welcome to the Lepelclub journal, we’re so happy to have you here! We’d love to know who is Robyn?

Hi Lepelclub! I am a 25 year old digital designer working at SheerLuxe in South London and before this I was at Liberty London and Net-A-Porter I was originally born in Essex but I now live with my boyfriend in Hitchin, Hertfordshire where we have just bought our first house (eeek!). I studied graphic design communication at UAL Chelsea and did a semester abroad at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.

What began your journey into journalism?

I think the main influence in my passion for design has probably come from my dad - he is very creative and we have always enjoyed visiting galleries together, drawing together and just doing all things creative together. Throughout my time at school and university he would always be on-hand to help me with my creative projects.

How do you like to start your mornings before a busy day?

I tend to be in the office most days so I am usually awake for 6:30 so I can get ready and enjoy a nice cup of tea in my favourite Gustaf mug. On my commute I read my Kindle, or if it’s a Wednesday I’ll be listening to the Girls Bathroom podcast - my ultimate fave!

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

I have recently started to mentor a colleague from a different team who is interested in learning more about design. It’s been so rewarding to see them develop their skills and put them into practice. I will always remember the advice and guidance I was given when I first started in this industry so it makes me feel grateful that I’m hopefully passing some good advice onto to someone else.

What is something most people don’t realize about publications?

I guess just how many teams and people are involved in each article that goes out! It really is a massive team effort. Given the huge amount of content that we publish, roughly 10 articles/emails a day in my space, there are so many eyes on each piece it really is essential that we all communicate well to ensure we have a collaborative process.

Do you have a favorite piece you’ve worked on and why?

Gosh that is a tough one to give an answer to. Even though I’ve only been with SheerLuxe a year, there is so much I’ve been involved in it’s hard to pick! I think that’s one of the best things about working at SheerLuxe - there are so many great little things on the go all the time so there is always something really exciting to work towards. I’d say I’m proud to have the responsibility of all editorial emails and how they translate to the website across all our supplements and regions.

We loved looking at the SheerLuxe Christmas gift guide this year! Anything catch your eye and going on your gift list?

Thank you so much! The Gift Guide turned out better than any of us could even have imagined! And it was so cool that SheerLuxe got to collaborate with the amazingly talented Annie Tala Shova! Picking one thing from the guide would be too difficult, but I do love the idea of owning the Light Salon Boost LED Face Mask or the La Jambu Hit Snooze Pillow cases.

Our favorite way to end the interview is to ask- How do you take your coffee?

The first thing I do when I get to the office in a morning is make myself a hot coffee with a Grind coffee pod, oat milk and a glass straw - the straw being a great tip from the dentist to avoid stained teeth! Or just make people laugh when they see me drinking coffee through one! The top of my wish list is the Nespresso x Sage coffee machine so I can enjoy amazing coffees at home as well!
