A coffee with Allie
For the last few years, I have met so many inspiring people and would love to share a sip of them. Let's have a coffee with Allie Lane.
Who is Allie?
I am 5 foot and 11 inches of positivity, a 28-year-old woman living in St Kilda, Victoria Australia and mother to Mr Sebastian the cat and Marvin the Pug puppy.
I love my job working in Human Resources with inspiring people for a business I believe in. I get to spend the rest time with other humans I adore.
I am the biggest Elvis Presley fan in my age bracket and love baking for my loved ones and despite the challenges of the last couple of years I can’t help but be overwhelmed with gratitude for all the goodness that surrounds me.
How would you describe the perfect day?
A purposeful day filled with smiling. Some of my best days haven’t been easy, but some of my easiest days haven’t been the best.
I think that starting the day with purpose and ending it with cheeks that hurt from smiling are the bookends for a perfect day.
How do you stir things up?
With a splash of optimism and smile! I consciously make the effort to not look down at my phone in the elevator or glance at my feet when a stranger walks by. Instead, I look around at my fellow passengers or raise my eyes to theirs and smile as they pass me.
The slight moment of awkwardness is rewarded tenfold by the feeling of getting that little grin back.
I’m human and it doesn’t always happen, but when I am down and someone else smiles at me first, I am reminded that it’s worth being the one to stir things up sometimes.
What’s the best advice you have ever received?
A leader once told me that whilst some might not understand or appreciate my positivity, it is a strength and a gift, and I should never play it down to please others.
We shouldn’t shrink parts of ourselves to fit, rather celebrate what makes us unique.
What inspires you?
The incredible world that we live in and my gorgeous fellow humans whom with I get to occupy it.
